About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

This review is from: Stamina 4825 Magnetic Resistance Recumbent Bike (Sports) Contrary to some other reviews, my package arrived in great condition. Everything was well-packaged and intact. The instructions were relatively easy, but took a lot of concentration (as I'm not so wonderful at these types of things). As others experienced, 4 screws were already screwed into the bottom of the seat and 4 more into the back of the seat. These had to be unscrewed first, then re-screwed in to attach the parts to their various mounts and brackets.Although the tools provided are adequate, I switched to my own tools halfway through assembly to lessen my frustration. I chose free shipping to save myself $50. I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money to get the machine sooner. I was glad I did. It arrived in 7 days and was worth the wait. I really love that this machine has no arms - the recumbent bikes at the gym all have arms that go back and forth as you pedal and I don't like them. This machine is low to the ground, too, which... This review is from: Stamina 4825 Magnetic Resistance Recumbent Bike (Sports) This bike does what it says in the description. It was relatively easy to assemble, but did arrive with some shipping damage. The plastic legs were crushed but Stamina did send a replacement within a week. Regarding performance, it is quiet and stable with enough resistance for most people. The adjustment for the seat distance is not the easiest so I would not recommend if you are not limber enough to hold the base in place with your legs while you try to slide the adjustment forward or backward. The electronics is very simple but not very important to me in terms of different programs. I only use the timer. The main criteria for my purchase of this bike was: Low console to not block view of TV; step through design; and price. This bike fits the bill. If you want a bike that looks & feels expensive then this is not for you. It's just a clean simple bike. 53 of 54 people found the following review helpful A Quality Item, By A Beachbum (St. Marys, GA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Stamina 4825 Magnetic Resistance Recumbent Bike (Sports) The shipping box looked pretty bad upon arrival, but the contents were in perfect shape due to excellent interior protection. Screws I thought might be missing were already in place in the seat and seat back. Put it together in less than 1 hour working alone with my own tools. Tools provided are like survival kit. Would work but would take much longer. Perfect fit & finish on all parts. Very high quality for this price. Very sturdy and stable ride as evidenced by 300 Lb. rating. Large easy to read computer display. Easy to move wheels. Easy seat adjust and tension knob. |

This review is from: Qmotions Funfitness for PS2 (Video Game) This controller hooks to your existing exercise bike. It works GREAT!It works with any ps2 racing game that uses the right stick for acceleration. That includes a lot of games. Need for Speed, Flatout, Downhill Domination and many more. Gives a "Great" workout! Does not work. Company out of business, By Margaret P. "mhp2027" (Boulder, CO USA) - See all my reviews = Fun: Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Qmotions Funfitness for PS2 (Video Game) I adore the idea behind this product.Unfortunately, it simply does not work. The manufacturer has gone out of business. The playstation 2 controler is operational, but none of race games we tried (including several listed on the package) respond when pedals of the reclined bike are moved. Package includes hardware installation information but no software assistance (i.e., how to get your game to respond to the specialized bike hardware). Note that you might have to spend a considerable amount of money to figure out that this device would not work, because you'll need a Playstation 2 and also a recumbant exercise bike. Upright models have the wrong shaft size. |

165 of 168 people found the following review helpful My best fitness friend., By This review is from: Nautilus R514 Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?) I am reviewing this bike from the perspective of someone who is about 100 pounds overweight, 5'4", and 55 years of age. I also have lower spinal problems which might require surgery, so I'm using this bike for weight loss, as well as general strengthening my back and improving my fitness level. I've lost 125 pounds in the last few years, partly by using a recumbent bike for exercise, but still have a ways to go! I'm writing this to let the reader know that I think using a recumbent bike for cardio exercise is a great thing especially if you are limited in how much weight-bearing exercise you can do.1st of all, the bike was very easy to put together. My easily-frustrated brother was kind enough to do this for me, and let me just say that I heard no yelling, cursing, or "what the h*ll is this?" the whole time. So...directions are excellent. In addition, the owner's manual (only about 20 pages) also has clear instructions, but graphics and instructions on the console... This review is from: Nautilus R514 Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports) I have had the Nautilus R514 for about 3 weeks now and it has been the best exercise machine that I have ever bought. The computer on it is easy to understand. You can go up to 16 levels as far as resistance is concerned. My husband and I have not really done a lot of aerobic exercise in a long while so we have our highest setting as level 4 right now, which doesn't sound like much, but is. He weighs roughly 290 and I weigh 170. I am average height og 5'6" and he is very tall. He doesn't have any problem with the seat settings. The seat is very easy to move to change between his and mine. The frame of the machine is very sturdy. It takes up a but of room as it is about 4 and a half to 5 feet long and needs about 3 feet of space widthwise. But we fit it into our living room alright. I have gotten tired of buying low-priced machines that do not last long so I decided to spend some more money and buy something from a company with a good reputation. I always used Nautilus... This review is from: Nautilus R514 Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports) I found the Nautilus R514 very quiet, quite sturdy, and relatively easy to assemble. I would make the following suggestions to anyone purchasing this exercise bike.1. Go to the Nautilus site, find the Assembly Manual, download and print it. It contains all the latest addendae, and the printout drawings will be larger and easier to read. 2. Spend some time reading the instructions while examining the parts before you start assembly. This may keep you from having to reinstall some of the parts 3. The latest manual starts with removing the seat rail from the frame. Skip to Step 2 instead and install the front and rear stabilizer feet first. This will keep the frame stable while you remove the seat rail (step 1). 4. As you install the bolts in a particular assembly, don't tighten them until you have all of them in place. This will help you to achieve correct alignment. About the only complaint (a minor one) I have is the... Read more |
